Pre-School Paint Adventures
Let your toddler’s imagination run wild in this playful, hands-on painting class! Designed for young children, this class is all about creative exploration and sensory fun—no “right” way to paint, just endless opportunities to experiment. Parents or guardians are required to join in the fun while local artist Randi Schuh guides them and their little ones as they discover new textures, colors, and ways to express themselves through paint. The focus is on the process, not the end result, so expect lots of mess, laughter, and colorful creations! We use non-toxic, washable paints, so you can relax and enjoy the messy fun. Be sure to dress for a good splatter!

Illustration Club with Alchemy Art New!
Do you like to draw, paint and create graphic art? Need a place to do it with or without help? Come to the Rec House after school on Fridays. Potential projects include designing and printing graphics onto clothing, making zines and comics, plan and paint a mural on a bus, tie dye/ bleach dye clothes, practice script and graffiti style writing, make stencils, learn different painting techniques, hang out, look at and talk about art. Know Your Island Walks

Arbor Day Community Celebration New!
Island Rec is joining forces with the Town of Friday Harbor and some fantastic community organizations to celebrate Arbor Day 2025! It’s a special time as we also honor our recognition with the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA. Come join us for a fun and informative afternoon featuring some amazing keynote speakers with info about urban forestry, tree planting, and keeping our island safe from fires. We’ll have a tree and plant giveaway, cool tree crafts, and a chance to win great prizes like home gardening supplies and native plant seeds in our raffle! Plus, don’t miss the native plant ID walk sponsored by the Land Bank, happening on the Redtail trail at Linde Park at 5pm.

Tour d’Family Island Bike Ride

Digital Photography
Join local photographer Chase Anderson and get comfortable with your digital camera! We will thoroughly cover the exposure triangle of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO so that you can fully harness the potential of your DSLR or mirrorless camera. We will also explore light, composition, and color so that you can continue to find your unique style. While these concepts will apply to all kinds of photography, this class’s practice will be limited to natural-light landscape and portrait photography.

Adult Co-ed Soccer League
New Teams Welcome! Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the sport, our league offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your skills, make new friends, and experience the thrill of competition. Float School
Passing a Float Test (offered in class at the end of the week) is a required component for any participant wanting to enroll in an Island Rec summer sailing class. The final float test requires the following skills: comfortable with face in the water, ability to swim the width of the large pool, float or tread water for 10 minutes, and put on life jacket while floating.

Babysitting Safe Sitter Class
Babysitting is important business and good babysitters are always in demand! Safe Sitter® is a nationally recognized training program that teaches the skills to do the job well and earn parents’ trust. Safe Sitters will leave this training with a valuable toolkit of medically accurate, up-to-date information and potentially life-saving skills to add to their babysitting resumes. Sailing
Sailing classes are offered cooperatively between San Juan Sailing Foundation and Island Rec. Life jackets, textbook, weight requirement and float tests may be required. Proof of Float test needs to filed with the Island Rec office before the start of class. Please call the office if you are unsure if you already have one on file. Float tests will be offered on June 3rd and June 10th from 4:30-5:15 at “The Rec” pool. Scholarships are available!

Little Picassos in the Park New!

Brad Pillow 8.8K Run
48 years running! Be part of this Island tradition, now named in memory of our friend Brad Pillow, who never missed a race. The race begins at 9:00am on Spring Street and ends at the County Fair. A fun run/walk for all ages! Race fee includes a wristband for entry into the San Juan County Fair for the day of the race. The first 130 registrants receive a commemorative t-shirt and the first 130 through the finish line receive a finisher medal.
Register before June 30 and reserve a shirt in the size of your choice. Shirts subject to availability for those registering after June 30.
